OZONE FREE BOX

The Ozone Free Box™ has been specially designed to prevent the destruction of Cyanine 5 by ozone. Cy5 destruction has been reported after 10-30 seconds exposure to ozone levels above 5-10 ppb*, especially during array washing, drying, and scanning.

(* ppb: parts per billion).

Ozone effects on microarray data quality:
• Strong reduction of spot intensities (degradation of the Cy5)
• Reduction of Cy5/Cy3 ratio
• Erroneous analysis
• Impact on the budget for microarrays

The Ozone Free Box™ destroys ozone during the hybridization, washing, drying and scanning steps.
With our innovative technology using a catalyst filter, we guarantee a level of ozone lower than 1ppb with the door closed and lower than 5ppb with the door open. The objective of anti-ozone treatment is to achieve a concentration lower than 5ppb to achieve the best possible signal intensities.
Ozone Free Box™ is composed of a transparent PMMA box, a catalyst filter unit and a high precision ozone detector.

fig.1: Catalyst Filter
The filter is made of aluminium with deposit of manganese oxide (MnO2 ).
Manganese oxide is the chemical compound MnO2, commonly called manganese dioxide. The black filter is used as a catalyst. Our design (fig.1) significantly increases the destruction of ozone (> 99%) with an airflow of only 1.5 m/s.

The tests on the side have been made in parallel using identical protocols.
Microarray 1 was hybridized and scanned in ambient laboratory air (Fig. 2), while the other was processed in an environment without ozone (Fig. 3).

fig.4: The Ozone Free Box™ is equiped with a high-precision sensor with a high resolution (±1 ppb) fixed inside the box and connected by a cable and an RJ 45 connector to a digital display located in front of the filter catalyst unit.

fig 5: The control panel is equiped with a digital display which indicates the level of ozone in real time.
An alarm can be programmed via the control panel to notify users when ozone levels are in excess of 5 ppb.
